Overview, Mission

Through a partnership between home, school, and community, Adams Elementary is a place where:
  • All children can learn the academic skills to become responsible, self-directed, life-long learners who are problem-solvers and decision-makers with respect for themselves and others.
  • Teachers embrace the responsibility for ensuring success in learning.
  • All children develop a sense of personal worth through successful work.
  • All children are helped to expand their abilities.
  • Teachers are committed to expanding their expertise in teaching

OUR GOALS...

Academic Standards
Students will meet or exceed local and state academic standards.

Staff Training
Adams Elementary will develop a plan of consistent, ongoing staff training to aid in the implementation of new teaching strategies brought about by new curriculum adoptions, technology, and Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements.

Respect & Responsibility
Implementation of School Wide Discipline Plan that rewards students for exceeding expectations, reinforces the district wide theme of respect, and encourages effort, self- discipline and responsible behavior.

Washington State Assessment
The Washington State Assessment is administered to 4th, 7th, 10th graders across the state of Washington to measure student progress toward meeting the essential academic learning requirements stated previously. Adams fourth grade scores in every one of the four areas tested have increased three years in a row. Please remember, although fourth graders are the ones tested, skills are acquired at each grade level which are necessary to the success of our students meeting the standards in grades four as well as grades seven and ten.

Goal 1: Essential Academic Learning Requirements
  • Read with comprehension, write with skills, and communicate effectively and responsibly in a variety of ways and settings.
  • Know and apply the core concepts and principles of mathematics; social, physical and life sciences; civics and history; arts; and health and fitness.
  • Think analytically, logically, and creatively, and to integrate experience and knowledge to form reasoned judgments and solve problems.
  • Understand the importance of work and how performance, effort, and decisions directly affect future career and educational opportunities.
Goal 2: Staff Training
District level Professional Development
Central Valley School District is a great place to educate your children. The community and staff take pride in the excellence of our schools. It is this working relationship which creates and inspires the atmosphere of effective schools for Central Valley students.
One of the strong factors in building an excellent educational system is the emphasis placed upon quality instruction. The Central Valley community has continuously supported inservice and professional development to promote that goal.
The inservice and professional development program is designed to:
  • Provide time for school staff to plan, develop and evaluate programs regarding their school and students
  • Provide time for district staff, grade levels and departments to learn about new programs and receive training.
Goal 3: Respect and Responsibility
Student Responsibilities and Rights Tour
Student safety is very important at Adams. Our students have the right to feel safe. It is with that in mind that I have taken the time to tour the building and talk to every class about their responsibilities and rights as a student at Adams Elementary. I have asked parents to take a few moments and review the Student Responsibilities and Rights and help us reinforce the following information that I presented.
  • Our students have the right to feel safe.
  • Our students have the right not to be physically assaulted, verbally assaulted, threatened or harassed. (each of which is grounds for short term suspension)
  • Our students have the right to know that anyone who brings a weapon to school (“including fake weapons and pocket knives”) will be suspended.
  • Our students have the right to know that swearing will not be tolerated. Swearing results in an immediate phone call home and will lead to suspension thereafter.
  • Creating a learning filled environment is our first priority. We have high expectations for student achievement and believe that is crucial that we maintain those same high expectations when it comes to behavior.
